heck yeah! i took a great yoga class today. it was mostly hatha style for beginners/intermediates and more difficult than i was expecting. i haven’t done yoga for 2 or more months, so i guess i should have expected to have a tough go of it.
the icing on the cake, it cost $2 for a 90 minute class. what?! to add to my enjoyment, the teacher was really cool and i ran into a guy that i met a few weeks ago that i share similar taste in music with.
a couple weeks ago, i had a 90 minute thai massage that was quite good. damage to my wallet, $15. i’ll talk more about how affordable things are here in a future post…
my wrists are already feeling better thanks to the fact that my computer use for one month is roughly equivalent to the time i used to spend in a week.
let the healing begin!
well, it sure is nice to be on a computer with a fast internet connection. xela is an international city, complete with foreigners from at least a few continents and plenty of international cuisine, but most internet cafes have slow connections and/or old computers… and i want to upload photos!
as much as i wanted to get away from using computers, i’m stoked to be sitting in front of one with headphones on, communicating with people i know. a couple hours on the keyboard or less per day is a lot easier on my ailing wrists (i have carpal tunnel syndrome aka CTS) than the long days on the keyboard i was used to in d.c.
the first 4 people i properly met are all vegetarian. the one who’s been here the longest, the school translator, is mostly vegan. relief! she told me where i can find soymilk and fake meat. bonus! i’ve eaten out twice and was impressed both times. falafel once, tofu and avocado with something like a bbq sauce the other time… delicous!
i had a spenglish talk with my host mom on sunday night and she’s been cooking vegan for me since, except some eggs. it’s the first time i’ve eaten an omelet in over 13 years, and yes, i liked it. something tells me the chickens here lead a better life than those in the u.s., so i don’t feel too guilty.
little did i know that xela is surrounded by volcanoes and experiences minor earthquakes. key word there is minor. i also didn’t know it’s 2000 meters (1.25 miles) above sea level, which i noticed with my asthma. the rainy season is starting right now, so i am quite thankful i knew to expect this and bought water-proof hiking shoes.
okay, the pictures are done uploading! adios.
